Theme

As the day's light dies to give life to the night, so does a darker side of one of America's oldest cities awakens. Boston, a city with a rich history stemming from the first days of the colonization of the new world, is the home of a small but interesting bar. In a city of hundreds of bars, what makes this one so special? The Moonlit Tavern is neutral ground for the things that go bump in the night, revolutionaries, mobsters, outlaws, and monsters - vampires, witches, and lycanthropes - all have held meetings in the tavern's backroom. The Moonlit Tavern is a MU* inspired by the Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. It is set in modern day Boston, in a world where vampires are out of the coffin and in the public eye, lycanthropy is considered to be a disease, and people raise the dead as a profession or a hobby. It is a world where the monsters might be the victim and humanity can be the greatest monsters walking the streets.

Moonlit Tavern is a role playing environment based on the Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. These books, all characters and places in her books are her intellectual property. On Moonlit Tavern, we merely use the 'theme' of her books to recreate a world similar to what she writes about in her novels.

On Moonlit Tavern, we are only considering some of the books as 'canon'. These books include: Guilty Pleasures, The Laughing Corpse, Circus of the Damned, The Lunatic Cafe, Bloody Bones, The Killing Dance, Burnt Offerings, Blue Moon, and Obsidian Butterfly. While elements of later books might be used on the game, that is at the discretion of the Moonlit Tavern staff.

Moonlit Tavern is set in Boston, Massachusetts. It is at a time contemporary with our own, running at a 1:1 time ratio with our own, which means that if it is January 3rd, 2011 in "real life" then it is January 3rd, 2011 on the game. While the game does include all of Boston, it focuses more on South Boston, also known as Southie.

Understanding this setting requires understanding its denizens. For info on the various types of preternatural being that populate this world, see below:
Lycanthropes (a.k.a. Shifters)
Vampires
Gifted Humans
Fae

The vast majority of people in the world are still normal non-preternatural humans, but there are some groups and professions that are unique to the setting.
